The Drug Overdose Epidemic
Provisional data from CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics indicate there were an estimated 107,622 drug overdose deaths in the United States during 2021, an increase of nearly 15% from the 93,655 deaths estimated in 2020. The 2021 increase was half of what it was a year ago, when overdose deaths rose 30% from 2019 to 2020.
Drug Monitoring & Toxicology
MAXIMUM DETECTION. MINIMUM DISCOMFORT.
Looking for expertise in drug monitoring? Our toxicology team provides complete testing options in every urine and oral fluid need. Plus, our programs are tailored to ensure compliance and ease of use for both the ordering physician and the patient.
This is achieved through drug screening via EIA analyzer and confirmations via Liquid Chromatography / Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Considered the gold standard for confirmatory testing, LC-MS/MS offers the best detection limits with little to no interference. Helix’s method validations for LC-MS/MS follow accepted guidelines by both CLIA and COLA.
Helix performs confirmatory testing on both urine and oral fluid specimens. Urine has long been the gold standard in confirmation testing, providing longer detection windows for drug identification. Oral fluid testing is a more recent technique, it allows for a simpler, less invasive specimen collection but in general, has shorter detection windows due to the lower bioavailability of drugs present in oral fluid. Helix can work with you to determine your testing purposes and can provide guidance on which matrix to test.
Urine Drug Testing (UDT)
Helix Diagnostics provides advanced clinical toxicology testing services to ensure your patients are in compliance with treatment plans.
Oral Fluid Drug Testing
Helix Diagnostics knows that you and your patients needs can change. Oral Fluid is an alternative when urine is not practical.
Urine Vs Oral Fluid
Cutting Edge Genetic Fingerprinting
DNA-based authentication using 44 unique single nucleotide
polymorphisms (SNPs) and patterns of DNA revealed by PCR
reaction. Guardian verifies a patients identity by analyzing
specific factors in their genome.
How Specific and Reliable?
Utilization of 44 unique SNP’s show the chance of a false match
being 1 in 5.53 Quintillion.
This genetic fingerprint gives providers and patients a layer of security and comfort. Providers can trust that their patients aren’t trying to deceive the system, and patients can count on their samples being tested accurately.
Specimen Validity Testing (SVT) and Guardian®
Helix Diagnostics believes that the integrity and viability of a specimen is instrumental in reporting definitive toxicology results. Similar to Specimen Validity, Guardian® is provided at no cost. Helix Diagnostics believes in reporting out toxicology results that truly belong to the patient and are unadulterated. A provider can choose to opt into the program for their entire practice or just specific patients.
Benefit of SVT /Guardian® Combination
- Observed Collection no longer required/needed.
- Allows patients to produce a specimen in the comfort of their own home, supporting telehealth and
commitment to improved health in rural communities.
- Greatly reduce the number of inaccurate sample results
- Ability to detect synthetic urines and new adulteration methods
- Great for patient validation and continuum of care as they transition from inpatient/institutionalized
setting into outpatient/monitored treatment or compliance.
The Helix Difference
Why choose us for your drug monitoring needs? We offer:
Routine turnaround times of 48 hours or less
Urine drug screening via EIA analyzer and confirmations by LC-MS/MS
Oral fluid confirmations via LC-MS/MS
Fully customizable test offerings
Compliance with local, state and federal guidelines
Partnerships with clinics of all types such as: methadone and suboxone recovery clinics, pain management clinics, general practitioners and more
Immediate answers to your most important questions
Fee transparency and a commitment to keeping costs low for all parties involved. We achieve this by offering customized test panels, as well as reflexive confirmatory testing (only confirming drugs that have screened positive.)
Continual evaluation of our test offerings in order to highlight potential new drugs of abuse and validation of these methods for routine sample analysis
